"What was that? Is he locking the door?"

Grandfather is a twisty thriller short story by Chris Burton, where things are not what they seem.

"Okay, something is wrong. This man is hiding something. Is he going into the attic?"

The Crooked House: A Gothic Horror Tale (Tales of Turmoil)

"There is no way that this building is this enormous. This hallway should not even be here at all. It could not."

SHADOWS OVER SANVIERO

"Something is wrong with this town . . ."
In this offbeat horror short story, what starts as a sunny Sicilian holiday for John and Pete gradually turns into a surreal fever dream. Rude people, rotting sandwiches, decomposing oranges, boarded-up shops, and warning signs. Welcome to Sanviero!

How To Banish The Evil Spirit From Your Dear Home: An Epistolary Horror Short Story (Tales of Turmoil)

"Dear Stranger,

There is a reason you have stumbled upon this letter. I am here to help you. If you are reading this, there is a good chance that you have been experiencing signs of a haunting or demonic possession—or if not, you might be just about to. You may ask who I am, but that is not important. Not yet, at least. To help you, all I need is your trust. In the next five to ten minutes, I will guide you through an ancient method to rid yourself of the entity that has been tormenting you, invading your home, family, and peace of mind . . ."

I Need You To Make Me Feel: A Horror Short Story (Tales of Turmoil)

"I should have stopped right then and there, but I couldn’t. I never knew when to stop. . ."

I Need You To Make Me Feel is a disturbing horror short story about the descent into the depths of consuming violent media; a dark web tale about the dangers of consequences of self-inflicted desensitization.

Shadows Over Sanviero: A Holiday Horror Short Story

"Something is wrong with this town . . ."

In this offbeat horror short story, what starts as a sunny Sicilian holiday for John and Pete gradually turns into a surreal fever dream. Rude people, rotting sandwiches, decomposing oranges, boarded-up shops, and warning signs.

The Riddle: A Horror Short Story (Tales of Turmoil)

“So, this is your chance,” James said to the man tied to the chair in front of him, holding a gun to his head. “I’ll ask you a little riddle. It won’t be that challenging, I promise . . .”

"The Riddle" is a post-apocalyptic horror short story about revenge.

Call Us If You Get Possessed

“The office was a protected area, but it was impossible to cover every attack surface. Sometimes the phenomenon can spread from the caller, through the wires, radio waves, and cell towers, straight to the other side of the phone call.”

During an unfortunate way home, Samantha becomes a witness to something she should have never seen. Now, she has no choice but to take a job at a call center that helps people with paranormal problems—or at least, tries to.

After failing to handle a particularly unsettling call, Samantha discovers that whatever was haunting her caller has now latched onto her. She's in grave danger and all alone in this mess.

Love: A Dark Short Story (Tales of Turmoil)

When the moment was right, she stood up, picked up her fork from the table, stepped towards me, grabbed the back of my head with her left hand, and stabbed the fork in my eye with her right. After an audible pop, the fork ran through my eye without much resistance, like a pointy toothpick through a grape, and the bloody eye-grape fluid ran down my face, staining my shirt.
“I’m so sorry,” she said. "I never thought we would end up like this.”

"Love" is a dark short story about... love.
And guts.

The Cycle: A Short Story (Tales of Turmoil)

"The Cycle" is a dark, gripping, mysterious and twisty thriller short story about fate, karma and the consequences of our actions.

I wake up lying on the ground. A knife stabbed into my stomach. The man appeared out of nowhere. Suddenly, a deafening, screeching sound rips into my brain. Complete blackness. The next moment, I find myself in a bedroom, next to a king-sized bed. I recognise the man. It’s him, undoubtedly. My time is running out. I know I must choose.

You Are What Eats You: A Short Story

“If I ever hear a f*****g Eminem track again, I swear to God I'm going to blow this f*****g gym up. And I'm not talking about that long-haired dude with a beard up there in the skies. It's not like that. At all.”

Cosmic horror meets gym culture in this darkly funny short story, where we follow a young gym rat through his diary entries as he delves into a new underground anabolic steroid that unlocks the door to an insane pump, crazy gains – and something far more sinister.

"You Are What Eats You" is Chris Burton's debut short story.
